Week 1: Announcement

This is Yanqing Liu, the course instructor. I would like to welcome you to my online class.

At the first week, you need to create your blog website and post the URL to the discussion board. I will view your blog and leave comments to your post on Discussion Board. Please go back to Discussion board and view my comments to revise your blog settings accordingly. After scan some of your blog settings, I found some common problems you need to notice:

  1. You need a meaningful title for your blog site (such as Yanqing Liu's (your name) Blogfolio.

  2. Choose an attractive theme from the design of the site. For this course, I want you to choose a theme which has its menu items displayed on top instead of at the corner of the page. Use short header for the top image.

  3. Add a Blogroll to the menu bar, make the name list under blogroll left-align. You can wait a few days so that you can copy mine when I got all blog URLs from your class.

  4. Keep only Blogroll and information about author to the side menu. Remove the default setting such as Archives, Categories and so on. You can remove these items by moving your cursor over the box and click X on the right top corner of the box to delete the item.

  5. By Default, there are some pages in your site: Home, Blog, About, and Contact when you create a blog in weebly.com. Keep Blog and remove all other pages as I demonstrated during the online meeting. You will add standard pages at the end of the term. Make sure that your reflections are posted on Blog page. Currently, three students posted their reflection on regular pages such as Home page. The structure of Home page is different from Blog page. If your theme doesn't have a Blog page, go to Page and add a Blog page.

  6. For your future references, make your site URL simple and easy to remember. Most of you did an excellent job. But some students' blog URL is too long to remember easily.

I hope that you will revise your blog setting once you get the comments so that you don't have to worry about it at the end of the term. Let me know if you have any questions.
