About the course

This Course will introduce the histories of Chinese Festival, the customs in different festivals and the Chinese traditional festival food. You also can learn how to cook Chinese traditional festival food. The Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Ching Ming, Dragon Boat Festival, Double-Seventh Day, Mid-Autumn Festival and The Double Ninth Day are the seven traditional festivals in China.

The purpose of this course is to understand the concept of food culture, the object, content and methods of research, and the status quo of research; to understand the diversity of the environment and culture, the development stage of food culture and the causes of food change; to understand the different between world diet culture and China Regional diet culture.

About the Teacher

Greating! My name is Yanqing Liu. I am be your teacher of this course- The culture of Chinese Festival and Traditional Food. Hope you will have a wonderful learning experience in this course.


I come from China, which is a beautiful oriental country with long history. I was born in Linyi, Shandong province. I was graduated from Linyi University and received my undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Arts in English. This is my last semester in Instructional Technology Master program at USM. I plan to complete my courses of master’s in instructional technology and graduate in this summer. I like playing badminton, if there is a chance, we can meet at the USM gym to have fun.

I like cooking, and I like to cook food to my family and my friends. I will feel happy when I look at the happy smile in their face when they eat the food I cooked. I think that delicious dishes need to be done with happiness mood. The best seasoning is happiness. The happiness mood will make a delicious meal. I hope this course can make you like Chinese food culture. You can make delicious Chinese food to share with your loved ones after the course and enjoy the joys of family and friends gatherings.
